Political Science 398: Contemporary Democratic Theory
Political Science Honors Program Seminar III
Associate Professor Jack Turner III
Spring 2013 The third class in the Honors Political Science seminar sequence, this class provided a thorough overview of traditional democratic theorists such as Jean Jaques Rousseau and Jürgen Habermas, we well as others such as Audre Lorde and Judith Butler. The range of theorists provided rich ground for discussion and critical thought about the application of these theories in a contemporary context. My final paper for the class focused on the role of theatre in democratic society and how it can uniquely foster many of the essential qualities of a healthy democratic citizenry. As my final paper of college, it provided a nice opportunity to bridge my two majors and think critically about how one could influence the other. |
