Political Science 407: International Conflict
Professor Elizabeth Keir
Fall 2010 For our final assignment in this class, we were asked to choose a conflict in American history and examine the reasons behind why one side attacked the other. I chose the Mexican-American war because I had studied social movements and cultural history of this time period, but knew very little about the details of the actual war. This was my first major research paper of college, and I utilized a variety of sources, both secondary and primary, including excerpts from President James K. Polk's diary. Combining my own analysis of this primary source with the extensive writings on the war provided an excellent opportunity for in-depth analysis, synthesis and argumentative academic writing. |
