Political Science
My studies in Political Science have covered a wide range of topics, from American politics to International Relations and human rights. I applied for and was admitted to the Political Science Honors Program, and completed three Honors Seminars, covering Patriotism, Human Rights, and Contemporary Democratic Theory, as well as an Honors Thesis.
The three classes I have chosen to profile on this portfolio are International Conflict, an upper level International Relations class; Contemporary Democratic Theory, the third class in the Honor Seminar sequence, and the independent study where I worked on my thesis, which focused on perceptions and opinions about global warming.

I have also gotten involved with politics outside the classroom. In the summer and fall of 2012, I worked with Organizing for America-WA, first as an Organizing Fellow, and then as a paid Campus Organizer. I worked with diverse groups to organize events, register voters, train volunteers, conduct phonebanks and canvasses, and work to educate voters and get out the vote. I was chosen to be among a select group of volunteers, interns and staff who got to greet President Obama as he got off Air Force One at Boeing Field.
In the past, I have volunteered with the campaigns of Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Rick Larsen, and was a delegate for Barack Obama at the Whatcom County Convention in 2008. I also worked with the campaign to approve Referendum 74 for marriage equality in 2012. |
