Honors
The UW Honors Program offered an interdisciplinary course of study and the opportunity to take fascinating and diverse classes across a wide variety of subject areas. Most Honors classes were in disciplines I knew little or nothing about, and many of these related to my majors and other interests in exciting and unexpected ways. Some Honors classes I took included a class about Computer Science called Brave New World, Race and Advertising in Americana, and Conservation Philosophy for the 22nd Century. I also completed the Honors Program in Political Science, participating in a year-long seminar sequence and writing a thesis.
In fall 2012, I taught a section of Honors 100: Intro to the Honors Program. I created the lesson plans and taught the curriculum, and was responsible for conducting each session of the quarter-long class introducing new students to the Honors Program. I also studied abroad through UW Honors, and spent a summer in Sierra Leone living in a small rural village doing research on Landogo storytelling.
